The Shelter Island Art Association was founded in 1973 and was originally known as the Bayside Artists. In 1988, the group merged with the Shelter Island Crafts Group and changed the name to the Shelter Island Art Association. There have been artists showing on Shelter Island (on the lawn, near the traffic circle) since the original group was formed.
The artists of Shelter Island Art Association reside throughout San Diego County. They have been selected by a jurying process to ensure consistent professional quality and originality. Many are represented in galleries and shows throughout the San Diego area. The goal of the Shelter Island Art Association is to bring emerging artists to the public in a pleasant and easily accessible forum. The Association provides a place for members to show and sell their artwork in a beautiful setting near the waterfront with breathtaking views of the San Diego skyline.
